Where is Jazan
Jazan Region (Arabic: جازان Jāzān) is located in the far South West corner of Saudi Arabia, and stretches some 300 km along the southern Red Sea coast, bordering Yemen along its Southern edge. It covers an area of 11,671 km² and has a population of approx. 1.4 million people. The capital is the city of Jizan; Muhammad bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz is the current Governor.
The Jazan Economic City (JEC) and associated Jazan Refinery Complex Project (JRCP) are 40km2 of strategic developments by the Saudi government intended to provide economic stimulus to Jazan Province, through large scale business, industrial, residential and commercial growth. JEC/JRCP are located on the Red Sea Coast, approximately 800km South of Jeddah, 80km North of the Yemen border, and approximately 50km North of the existing city of Jizan, where there is a commercial airport (IATA Code: GIZ), and a small commercial port, known as Jazan Port.
Under an EPC contract with Saudi Aramco, China Harbour Engineering Co. Ltd. is building a non-commercial jetty in the South West corner of the JEC, to serve the needs of JEC construction. Completion is expected early 2016.
Though the climate on the highlands of Jazan Province is similar to the relatively wetter climate of 'Asir, the coastal regions of Jazan Province are part of Tihamah, probably the hottest place in the country, with mean maximum temperatures ranging from 40°C (104°F) in July to 31°C (88°F) in January. Coastal lagoons result in high humidity, and rainfall is extremely low at less than 75 millimetres (3 inches) per year. There is a high prevalence of sand storms during the summer months.
What are we building and why?
In April 2015, Air Products was awarded a contract by Saudi Aramco under a joint venture (JV) of Air Products and ACWA Holding to build, own and operate the world’s largest industrial gas complex to supply 75,000 metric tons per day (20,000 oxygen and 55,000 nitrogen) to Saudi Aramco’s refinery being built in Jazan, Saudi Arabia for 20 years.
Air Products will use its proprietary technology to design and build the industrial gas complex. Once built, the facility will be owned by a JV of Air Products (25%) and ACWA Holding (75%).
